FOUNDERS

Silvio Barone

Graduated in Business Administration at Fundação Getúlio Vargas – FGV – São Paulo  ( 1991 ) , extension in International Marketig and Consumer Behavior at Northern Illinois University and Philosophy at  Universidade Mackenzie. He worked for many years in multinational companies , as Ambev , Phillip Morris and Kraft  , with distribuition and reengineering projects in Brazil , USA , Venezuela , Porto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago .

Always engaged with socioenvironmental issues specially in coastal zones  strenghtening  traditional fishermen communities,  youth entrepreneurship actions and  initiatives related to local culture and knowledge , in areas affected by predatory fishing and climate change events. Worked as Strategyc Coordinator of Sea Shepherd Brazil , member of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society,  ASHOKA: Innovators for the Public Communication Consultant . Founder of Brazilian Islands Institute , LEAD Fellow – Program on Leadership for Climate Security and a Member of Ramakrishna Mission RELIEF Section – India .

Co-founder and Director of Strategyc Partnerships of Institute BARCA – Brazilian Actions / Resilience, Climate Adaptation ,  an organisation founded by Brazilians with the mission to create innovation, cooperation and entrepreneurship to help society adapt to the effects of climate change and other natural and anthropogenic events.

Vicente Manzione

Vicente, 36, founded Institute BARCA in 2009 where he is responsible for Knowledge Management. He is a founding partner of Gestao Origami – Sustainable Business Consulting where he has developed projects in the thematic of Education & Sustainability, Climate Change, Local Development and Strategic Agenda for companies such as Pepsico, the Votorantim Group, Pernambucanas, CTEEP, Itaú-Unibanco and the British Embassy. Advisor to the Center for Sustainability at the Methodist University of Sao Paulo where he also teaches subjects related to sustainable development. In the past, participated in projects in ICLEI, Brasilinvest and ERM-Brazil.

Economist (2001), with a Masters in Environment and Development from the LSE – London School of Economics (2003), specialized in Education for Sustainability at Schumacher College (2008) and Business of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuel at FIA (2008). He is Fellow of the LEAD Program in Climate Security (2009).

Carlos Alzugaray

Caco Alzugaray, 41, is an economist (PUC-SP).  With 19 years old, after graduated as a second tenant of Brazil Army, started his work at Editora Três that publishes the Brazilian magazines IstoÉ, Dinheiro, Gente, Planeta, among others. Since 2007 is CEO of Editora Três, a Communication Group of his family.

He created his own publishing company Rocky Mountain that publishes the American magazine Outside, renamed to Go Outside in Brazil and edits the surfing magazine Hardcore. He competes in adventures running and mountain ultra-marathons and was the youngest CEO of Brazilian Association of Magazine Editors.

Always engaged with environmental issues, was one of the mentors of the first partnership of Editor Três with the NGO SOS Mata Atlântica in the ‘Forest of the Future Project’.

 Dr Waverli Maia Matarazzo Neuberger

Professor Waverli has a PhD in Biological Science (Zoology) from University of São Paulo (1994) and is specialized in Education for Sustainability from Schumacher College, UK (2008). She was awarded with sponsorship from Kellogg’s and Ford Foundations and was Secretary for the Environment of City of Santo André/SP.

She coordinates the Methodist University of Sao Paulo Environmental Centre where is responsible to manage contracts with companies and NGOs such as Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica, Movimento em Defesa da Vida, Nordum da Alemanha,  Ecovias dos Imigrantes, RENCTAS.

She is specialized in Education for Sustainability at Schumacher College and is taking a course on Cultural Biology at Institute Matrizio with Humberto Maturana.

 Sylvio Rocha

Brazilian, 42 years old. Bachelors in Business Administration at Fundação Getúlio Vargas – São Paulo/Brazil. Over 20 years working for multinational financial groups, last 10 years at HSBC Brazil. Over 25 years working as a volunteer in education and environmental projects. Active participation on HSBC and Earthwatch 5 years partnership, joining for a two weeks on the field research on Valdivia – Chile.

Member of the Board of Instituto HSBC Solidariedade, starting 2010, representing 23,000 HSBC employees in Brazil. President of the Board of Maria Helen Drexel Association since 2004 and working as a board member since 2001. Fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Dr Nestor Kenji Yoshikawa

Nestor graduated in geology from the Geosciences Institute at the University of Sao Paulo (1979) and has a PhD in Mining Engineering from the Department of Mining of Oil Engineering (1997). He is director and level III researcher at the State of Sao Paulo Technological Research Institute (IPT) with large experience in geotechnical, soil and rocks mechanics, geosciences with focus on environmental geology have worked in the following themes: the environment, tunnels, and environmental risk analyses and solid waste management.

 Fabio Crotti

Fabio, 32, has a bachelor degree in Economics Sciences and MBA in International Economics. Has over 12 years of professional experience in multinational companies in leadership positions in charge of all aspects of finance, controlling, treasure, strategic and financial planning, tax and IT related activities. Five years of international experience across all Latin American countries including an expat period in US.  The experience includes companies such as Kimberly- Clark Corporation, Camargo Correa Cimentos, Sandvik AB, Jarden Consumer Solutions. Speak three languages.

Marina Martins

Graduated in International Relations at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado – FAAP, in São Paulo (2005). She attended courses in Forced Migration (University of London), Corporate Social Responsibility (World Bank Institute and Jogo da Cidadania) and International Negotiations (Centro de Estudos de Negociações Internacionais – CAENI). Her work experience encompasses the Department of Public Information of the United Nations, in New York; the Foreign Commercial Service of the U.S. Consulate, in São Paulo; the Public Security and Politics areas of the Instituto Sou da Paz, in São Paulo; the Illinois Office of Trade and Investment, in Chicago; and the Office of the Secretary General of Amnesty International, in London.

She created and implemented her own international cooperation project named Projeto Doando Conhecimento, which was supported by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, the Brazilian Air Force and the many Brazilians who donated books for the Project. Doando Conhecimento sought to contribute to educational and social development of Portuguese speaking countries by the donation of books for the creation of reading rooms.

She is currently attending the MSc in International Relations at Instituto de Relações Internacionais of the Universidade de São Paulo – USP, in São Paulo, with specialization in Environmentally Induced Migration. She is a member of the Climate and Development Group (a multidisciplinary group of professors and students from USP that promotes discussions and research on climate change issues) and a collaborative member of IBARCA.

Allan C. Benedecti

Graduated in publicity and advertising at Universidade Metodista – UMESP – São Bernardo do Campo ( 2011 ). He is an Internet Analist Jr. at WROI, where handles daily with Online marketing by SEM, Affiliates and Social media.

Always engaged with socioenvironmental issues, went to Maranhão at Operation Catirina of Rondon Project coordinated by the Ministry of Defence in 2010, where he took social integration actions. Earlier in 2007, he used to be an active Support Participant of Greenpeace in Toronto, Canada, where he volunteered to renew and paint the deposit of the organization and participated of protests such as one for the release of war prisioners in kuwait and another to the mandatory use of identification tag for GE foods.
Has developed the blog for BARCA Institute and currently coordinate some comunication tools for the organization such as social networks and strategic database.
