Adaptation: It’s your call

This event is part of be the launch of A BARCA in Copenhague 2009. Brazilian Action / Resilience on Climate Change, an organization founded by Brazilians with the mission to innovate in cooperation and entrepreneurship to adapt society to the effects of climate change and others natural and anthropogenic events.
As results we expect to promote reflection and dialog among persons from different cultures about the adaptation issue and to build a collaborative network of adaptation agents with the workshop participants. The network will use a virtual space and face-to-face meetings in order to share knowledge and learning and to develop adaptation actions.
Workshop objectives:
a) To reflect about the urgency to identify and develop community and systems adaptation actions and projects over the challenges imposed by climate change and other natural and anthropogenic events.
b) To establish a dialog among participants regarding communities and systems vulnerability scenario and priority areas to act.
c) To present Brazilian actions on adaptation in different biomes.
d) To incentive dialog and experience exchange between persons from different cultures about their interest on adaptation initiatives.
e) To construct a knowledge and learning community that exchanges information about local adaptation actions and technology focused on sustainable and human development based on increase resilience and reduce vulnerability.
f) To invite participants to join a virtual network of ‘adaptation agents’.
To fulfill these objectives, the following activities shall be developed:
a) To build vulnerability and opportunities scenarios brought by adaptation processes.
b) Exhibition of pictures and images of communities and talks of individuals in vulnerable situations in Brazil
c) Group activities – sharing expertise and interests on adaptation
Public: persons interested in climate change adaptation willing to participate in a virtual collaborative and cultural diversified network that makes possible collective learning, mobilization for action and local action implementation

Brazilian experiences of adaptation to climate change
Location: Global, Nørre Alle 7, København N
Time: December 14, 2009 from 1pm to 5pm
Brazil is a country deeply affected by climate change and which already has innovative stories of community adaptation to share. In this session, the hosts will share pictures and stories of Brazilian actions on adaptation and establish a dialogue among participants from different cultures about the challenges of climate change, the possibilities for community adaptation, and strategies for action. The larger intention is to start building a knowledge and learning community of “adaptation agents” to share information about local adaptation actions and methods of increasing resilience and reducing vulnerability.
